Glass Railing Maintenance: Keep It Crystal Clear
2 min read
Why it matters
The whole point of glass panel railings is the view. Water spots, dust, and fingerprints undo that in a weekend.
The 10 minute monthly routine
- Rinse panels with a garden hose.
- Spray with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and white vinegar, or a commercial glass cleaner.
- Wipe with a clean microfiber cloth using vertical strokes.
- Dry with a second dry microfiber.
Tools
- Two microfiber cloths (one wet, one dry).
- Spray bottle with diluted glass cleaner.
- Soft squeegee for larger panels.
- Tongue-tipped gutter hook to reach the bottom channel.
What to avoid
- Ammonia cleaners on smoked or tinted glass (can etch).
- Paper towels (leave fibers).
- Abrasive sponges or scouring pads.
- Pressure washing above 1,500 psi (can blow panels from base shoe).
Hard water stains
White vinegar and a soft cloth beats almost everything. For stubborn deposits, use Bar Keepers Friend soft cleanser on a damp microfiber.
Winter care
Keep snow and ice off glass panels with a plastic snow brush. Never use a metal shovel against glass. De-icing salt should not touch aluminum posts or base shoes.
Annual professional clean
Every 12 to 18 months we offer a full detail clean with professional restorer that removes all mineral deposits and renews the glass coating. Call if you want on the schedule.
